Addendum

Revisit in order. I am much better at Souls and am more patient lol. There are real frustrations with this game but I think I can give it a better shot. Plus I need to try the DLC.

A game who’s legacy bestows a really great experience, but only occasionally. This game is too exhausting, and for all the wrong reasons.

While I am sort of new to souls, with Bloodborne being my only experience in the series, I’m pretty good at these kinds of games. But this game just frustrated me, and not in a way that feels fair.

The good parts are seriously good: the atmosphere is awesome and badass, the combat overall is unmatched in the industry, the customization is endless, and the world is a joy to explore. What kills it for me are the enemies.

The whole point of a souls game is to fight people, and if fighting people is lame, the game is not fun. On one note, I loved Yhorm, Abyss Watchers, Dragonslayer Armor, Twin Princes, and the final boss. All the other bosses however are lame and unfair. No matter my build or level, i felt weak the whole game, it never felt fair. Enemies spam enormous, lightning fast, and strong ass moves that are an absolute SLOG. memorizing patterns doesn’t even feel satisfying when the strat for most encounters is to jank the boss. The enemies in the map also straight up cheat. They can hit you through walls with no repercussions, while you yourself are neutered in tight spaces. Their attacks are relentless when yours are limited by stamina. Their swords are enormous while yours is tiny.

Bloodborne felt like a fair fight, this was just a slog.

I’ll give credit where its due, but this game is too much for me.
