An excellent and nostalgic journey through and through. I never played the original LM as a kid, but I held a fondness for it nonetheless, I was always captivated by its music and atmosphere. Playing through the game myself was endlessly joyful from start to finish. The game is simplistic in its premise and controls, but it uses them all to the extreme, making for some seriously clever and fun sections, and unlike 3, I never got exhausted by the puzzles. The aforementioned sound design seriously carries the experience too. It might just be the nostalgia talking, but I just adored every single sound in the whole game. The music, the ghosts, Luigi and E Gadd, locked doors, the Poltergust, the Pianist Ghost, literal masterclass in charm.
The only fault i found was how the 3ds port functioned. Aiming was HORRIBLE and extremely inaccurate. Even when I had figured out a puzzle or boss, I would miss by mere pixels and be unaware of it, thinking that I hadn’t cracked the puzzle when I had all along, I just can’t see what I’m doing in the first place. Because of this i wish i had played the original GC version. The port does make a nice use of the bottom screen though, the map is a nice companion.
