Yakuza 5 (Remastered)

HEY YOUUU WHAT’S UP MAN? GIBE ME MONEY PLEEZE

A winding journey that I ended up liking more than I thought.

The new engine makes combat feel a lot smoother, and makes models look and sound better too. Kiryu and Akiyama kick ass, Saejima and Shinada too but they’re a little more clunky. Its still fun to master them all and create your own combos. The one major combat downside is all the BLOCKING THE ENEMIES DO. at least this makes your grabs more viable as a strategy.

The story is alright…? It has its sweet moments, and the characters remain rich as ever, but its held back by Yakuza cliches. Cartoony, corny moments during tension, inconsistencies in story, scope thats almost too big for its own good, as all the stories dont feel as strongly connected. So many characters are thrown away too. Lots of padding as well.

The ending was sweet though, and Haruka’s part was surprisingly my favorite along with my homie Shinada (<3). I didn’t do much of the side content but the portions i did try weren’t as lame as 4’s, (except for hunter Saejima headass). Exploring Tokyo, Nagoya, Fukuoka, Osaka, and Sapporo is awesome too.

Also, god bless the introduction and inclusion of some of the most iconic karaoke songs ever.
